Wayne Jacobson from the Office of the Provost presented an overview of the data from the Student Experience in Research Universities (SERU) survey. He covered preliminary data on overall satisfaction, satisfaction and interaction with faculty, time studying, and student conduct. Please click here to view Wayne’s presentation. SST members also had an opportunity to review responses from students describing how they have changed or developed as a person during their time at UI. Wayne concluded his presentation with some next steps you can take if you are interested in learning more. There will be three hands-on SERU Data Workshops in TILE classrooms for people who want to explore the SERU dataset firsthand. Sessions are open to all faculty and staff. Rose Lane from Student Life gave an update on some transfer student initiatives that are part of a student success proposal created by the Transfer Think Tank. Rose covered new communication with transfer students, the transfer mentoring program, transfer student programming during On Iowa!, and outlined an overall assessment plan. There is a new professional learning community on campus for individuals who work with peer educators or are interested in peer education. The Peer Educator PLC will meet throughout the year to learn and think together about common issues concerning peer educators across various programs on campus. The next meeting will be held on October 16th from 2:30-3:30 in the Lucas-Dodge room of the IMU. Feel free to attend if you are interested!
